ARCH+ was founded in 1967 at the University of Stuttgart and has significantly shaped the German-speaking architectural discourse for over five decades. The journal is a mirror of discursive developments on the one hand and their repercussions on architectural practice on the other. The IGmA research project "50+ Jahre ARCH+ - Architekturdiskurs und Innovationsgeschichte (AT)" (50+ Years of ARCH+ - Architectural Discourse and History of Innovation), financed by the BBSR (Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban and Regional Development / Initiative "Zukunft Bau") and the University of Stuttgart, examines the ARCH+ issues of the last 50 years in terms of their innovative content and embeds exemplary thematic complexes in a broader discourse landscape of German-language architectural journals and the (inter)national scientific and technical state of research. The focus is on individual topics such as cybernetics / digitalisation / new technologies, housing / social interaction, materials / sustainability / ecology, modernity and methods of urban planning.

The archive of the ARCH+ with over 200 thematic issues serves as a basis for research work and is enriched by extended literature research and discourse analysis. This will be done by interviewing contemporary witnesses (video interviews), as well as by exchanging ideas with protagonists, authors and experts from the direct and extended environment of ARCH+ in a series of workshops and a conference at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (8-9 November 2019). The research project is accompanied by a scientific advisory board. Lectures dedicated to the project will be held at the University of Stuttgart, the results of which will be incorporated into the final presentation on the platform.

The (teaching) events such as the workshops, interviews and the advisory board meetings will serve in their combination to address relevant topics of built practice, theories and discussions from an innovation-historical perspective and to analyze them in the context of historical and contemporary political and social developments. Part of the research, and at the same time the research output aimed at, will be the establishment of a digital platform, which in both form and content will show the conclusions drawn on the basis of the research work for the current challenges of architectural discourses.

The research project will culminate not only in a scientific report, but also in a digital platform that will be expanded further.
